DMR Safety Technology Centre

Objective
Relocation of the NSW Department of Mineral Resources existing Sydney based laboratory and testing facilities to Maitland. The new Safety Technology Centre building is to provide DMR with the ability to better manage mine emergencies in the Hunter area coal mines and also provide a local base for their mobile laboratories.
Outcome
- Heavy testing and research laboratory, training and administration.
- Accommodates a permanent home for the NSW mines history museum.
- Peristitial services space along façade to avoid internal shafts and ducts which restrict flexibility.
- Flexibility through modular furniture system, enabling changes in work practices throughout the building’s life cycle
